2017 Sanibel Music Festival
If it’s March, it’s time to celebrate the 31st year of the Sanibel Music Festival, another island tradition.
The 2017 season includes seven concerts held at 8 p.m. at the Sanibel Congregational Church at 2050 Periwinkle Way. Indulge your passion for classical music – or attend a concert for the first time – at this world-class Festival.
The Brentano String Quartet, founded at Julliard in 1992 and now the faculty quartet-in-residence at Yale School of Music, opens the season on Saturday, March 4 with pieces by Bach, Mendelssohn and Beethoven.
On Tuesday, March 7, Eric Lu, winner of the National Chopin Competition, performs Mozart, Schubert and Chopin.
The Daedalus Quartet will perform Beethoven, Brahms and more on Saturday, March 11, followed by the Boston Chamber Music Society with Ann Hobson Pilot, Harp, on Tuesday, March 14 presenting pieces by Schubert, Mozart, and Ravel.
The renowned Emerson String Quartet, together for more than thirty years, performs Mozart, Debussy and Beethoven on Saturday, March 18.
Turning to Broadway tunes, the Festival presents “An Evening with The Gershwins” on Tuesday, March 21 featuring an exciting young cast of singing actors with selections from Girl Crazy, Lady Be Good, Funny Face and The Gershwin Songbook.
The Festival concludes Saturday, March 25 with the Opera Theater of Connecticut presenting excerpts from operas by Massenet, Bizet and Gounod, plus favorite French pieces including works by Offenbach, Delibes and Thomas.
