National Seashell Day is Back!

Mark your calendars for June 21^st when southwest Florida will be celebrating National Seashell Day! It promises to be a great start to summer and an event is planned on Fort Myers Beach that will rock the seashells that Sanibel, Captiva and Fort Myers Beach are known for.

Fort Myers Beach will host a Guinness World Record title attempt for the largest human image of a seashell. Sponsored by the Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau, the attempt will hope to attract 1,000+ people (the current record is held by Shell Oil Company with 855 participants.)

“Summer’s here and we’re going to celebrate by creating a human seashell of epic proportions” says Tamara Pigott, VCB Executive Director. “With the help of our community, we look forward to attempting a Guinness World Record title.” An adjudicator from Guinness will be on site to verify the attempt.

Participants are asked to meet on the beach behind The Outrigger Beach Resort located at 6200 Estero Boulevard. The event will be held rain or shine and registration is at the Tiki Hut at the Outrigger between 6:30 and 8:30 am. This fun event will run until 11:30 am.

All who take part will receive a 2018 commemorative National Seashell Day t-shirt and hat, as well as complimentary water, fresh fruit, snacks, entertainment and tent seating for shade. Participants are asked to bring refillable water bottles for the water stations.

Although there is no parking on site, trolleys will ferry people to and from the event. Trolleys will run every 10 – 15 minutes from Fort Myers Beach Park & Ride, 11101 Summerlin Square Road, and from Lovers Key State Park, 8700 Estero Boulevard, east side.
