Although many southwest Florida attractions close for some of the summer months or have limited summer hours, the Edison Ford Winter Estates is in full swing for the summer and has a number of special programs to attend.

A visit to the Edison Ford Winter Estates is a must-see while in the Fort Myers area. Admission to the Estates is free for members and $25 for non-members. Special programs are free with admission. All of the programs described below begin at 11:30.
July 17th – Ask the Curator – Who Was Theodore Edison?
Collections Registrar Matt Andres presents a short talk on Theodore, fondly referred to as the “little laboratory assistant.” He was the fourth son and youngest child of Thomas Edison and Mina Miller Edison. He was a 1923 graduate of MIT and became an inventor in his own right. When Thomas Edison died, Theodore took charge of his father’s experimental laboratories and later in life founded Calibron Industries Inc.

Collections Registrar Matt Andres will give an in-depth tour of Edison’s Botanical Laboratory.
July 30th – Henry Ford’s 156th Birthday Celebrated at Edison Ford
To honor Henry Ford, the automobile icon, the Edison and Ford Winter Estates will celebrate his 156th birthday on July 30th. The day will start off with a free presentation about Ford at 11:30 a.m. on the museum porch (regular admission prices apply to tours of the homes, museum, and lab). Cookies and lemonade will be served. Both guided and self-guided tours are available and visitors can learn about the inventions of both Ford and Edison and how the two men became acquainted.
