After a year of construction and anticipation, Doc Ford’s Sanibel has a new home! Hundreds of people came to the celebratory Open House on Thursday, September 8th to congratulate the owners and get a tour of the sparkling new facility.
Formerly located at the intersection of Rabbit Road and San-Cap Road, Doc Ford’s regulars will have to get used to their new location. Now residing next door to Lily’s, and across the street from Bailey’s General Store and George and Wendy’s Seafood Grille, the new Doc Ford’s will bring extra vitality to an already popular area of the island.

When you enter, you are greeted by friendly, welcoming staff and a beautiful tropical aquarium visible from two sides. Crowds at the Open House mingled around the bar and enjoyed complimentary drinks and appetizers, while congratulating owners Marty and Brenda Harrity, and Mark Marinello.
The new 11,000 square foot facility features a state-of-the-art kitchen, and a reclaimed wood and tin roof interior reminiscent of a fishermen’s village. Several wide-screen televisions in the bar seating area capture guest’s attention, while there are numerous seating choices including tables, booths and high-top tables. There is also an upstairs loft with a full bar, and both indoor and outdoor seating.
Local author Randy Wayne White, whose “Doc Ford” character is the namesake for the restaurant, has also contributed to the décor, with book cover artwork featured prominently on the walls.
The new facility is a wonderful addition to the Sanibel dining scene and will be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
