Cooking Classes at the Community House

The newly renovated Community House is quickly becoming a cooking hub and classes are being offered under the tutelage of Resident Chef Jarred Harris. Harris is a Florida native who loves food, and loves teaching others about food. In the month of December, classes are being offered on Hors d’oeuvres At Home, a series being sponsored by The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company. Some of the classes are hands-on, while others are demonstrations.

A hands-on class will be held on Thursday, December 7^th, featuring a selection of impressive appetizers. The class features shrimp and chorizo empanadas, buffalo rissoles, truffled lobster vol au vent, and shrimp, crayfish and andouille pot stickers. (Sounds too good to pass up!) The class is being held from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

A demonstration on December 10^th will introduce the following goodies: fried tofu money bags in red curry, tandoori-spiced turkey kofta and cilantro raita, caprese tartlets and spanakopita chicken patties. Class hours are 4:00 to 6:00 pm.

The next demonstration, being held on Thursday, December 14^th, includes the mouthwatering crispy polenta with mushroom ragout, chickpea fritters with hummus, sweet potato and goat cheese samosas and spicy eggplant beignets. Class hours are 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

These classes are an excellent way to get ideas for holiday entertaining and so much fun to participate in. Hands-on classes are $75 for members/$95 non-members.
