Celebrity Discussions!

A fundraiser will be held at the Sanibel Community House on Thursday, March 29^th at 6 pm for the Shipley Cardiothoracic Center at Health Park Medical Center in Fort Myers.

A celebrity panel discussion will be a highlight of the evening, featuring three well-known personalities: local author Randy Wayne White, Sanibel’s first mayor, Porter Goss, and NBC-2 News anchorwoman Kellie Burns.

The trio will discuss their good and not-so-good times on the world’s biggest stages. Organizers felt that it would be an interesting discussion to have these speakers talk about times when they faced extraordinary pressure and perhaps didn’t perform at their best. How did they work through that time, and what did they learn from the experience?

Randy Wayne White is a writer and author of the world-famous Doc Ford novels, making Mr. White part of Sanibel lore. Mr. Goss worked for a decade at the C.I.A. before relocating to Sanibel.

He was active in Sanibel’s incorporation and served as the first mayor. He served in congress for almost 16 years representing southwest Florida and returned as the C.I.A. Director in 2004.

Ms. Burns has been with NBC-2 since 1994, working her way up from a reporter to primary evening news anchor.

Moderating the discussion will be Brian Hummell, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Shipley. Nearly every day Dr. Hummell performs complex surgical procedures.

He recognizes that everyone, regardless of their occupation, deals with the stresses of performance. He looks forward to hearing about the experiences the panelists will relate.
